Eco-textile News For Organic Cotton Clothes
April 09 2009
The Soil Association has said that the sales value of organic textiles and clothing in the UK could nearly triple to £280 million in 2012 from sales of £100 million last year.
In its annual Organic Market Report released on Monday, The Soil Association says sales of organic products are a fast-growing segment of the £30 billion UK clothing and textile market, with sales estimated at £60–65 million in 2007 and £85–90 million in 2008 – an annual growth rate of around 40%
Over 150 retail shops and 250 online shops are selling organic textile products in the UK with Marks & Spencer selling 1.1 million and New Look selling 2.3 million organic items in 2008. For New Look, this was a 50% increase on 2007.
