Christmas Lights Are Greener Than Ever
December 07 2007
In Manchester the streets are glowing as the council spends £500,000 going green to make this the brightest Christmas yet. They have a huge Santa that is powered with 100,000 low energy bulbs, and they tell us that these bulbs only run the equivalent of a small fan heater!
The Manchester council have bought a million low energy bulbs which is twice the amount that they bought last year, but they will use less energy, and in Wales we can see solar powered Christmas trees!
The story of green light doesn’t shine everywhere though. Sadly, smaller councils are struggling with demands on their budget and many are forced to cut back on non-essential spending. In London the cost of providing Christmas lights to cheer our souls has fallen on the retailers, who have spent £1 million on low energy lights that are also carbon offset. That is absolutely fantastic. While those in power are enjoying their delights and cheer, perhaps they could spare a thought for those small town dwellers.
If you want to buy some LED lights of your own for either indor or outdoor use, Christmas Direct have a great range, including those in this picture!
